Join us for an adventurous women’s kayak trip on the spectacular River Derwent.

A perfect trip for ladies who are novice kayakers and/or women who are looking for a kayak adventure to build confidence on the moving water. This section of the River Derwent offers a mix of relaxing gentle flowing river sections, platypus feeding pools, beautiful scenery and fun introductory rapid sections. Come alone and make new friends or bring your friends along! All kayaking equipment, guide / instructor services, wetsuits if it is a cooler day, morning tea and lunch with transport to and from New Norfolk. If you are looking to escape to nature, have an adventure with like-minded souls and/or wanting to learn new skills in a very supportive and friendly environment this is the trip for you.

Participants MUST be able to swim and have moderate mobility/fitness.

Very low Covid risk activity. Outside and masks must be worn on van and travel bus time under 15 mins each way. If you have symptoms before trip please provide proof of positive test for a transfer to another trip within 24 hours of departure. Otherwise no refunds for this trip. Can be transfered to friend if arranged by buyer. Or if we have women on waitlist.

We do not run this trip commercially at Tassie Bound Adventure Tours and only available with Wild Island Women.


Meeting time:

9: 30 am from Laskey’s carpark in New Norfolk. (Car park behind High Street/Post Office). From here we will go in the shuttle together to the launch location.

We will be paddling for around 3 – 4 hours in total with breaks along the way. We begin on a private farm on Meadowbank Road on the confluence of the Tyenna River and finish kayaking at the confluence of the Styx River in Bushy Park. You do NOT need to have any previous kayak experience and we will be following the river flow so trip not particularly strenuous. Just bring your smile and adventurous spirit! Please note this trip is not suitable for non-swimmers or anyone with injuries which prevent general mobility. Please ask us if you are unsure. Tandem kayaks can be arranged for unconfident paddlers.

Inclusions as follows:

• Tuition given to level of tour.

• Courtesy Transport from New Norfolk to Launch Site and Return

• We will be supported by Professional Guidance with Australian Canoeing Qualified Guide and Leader: Fiona Weaver and Liam Weaver

• All kayaking Equipment provided including PFDs, Wetsuit for cooler days, Paddling spray jacket. Solo sit-on top Hobie Kayaks or a Tandem Kayak which are super stable an no rolling techniques needed to operate.

• Morning Tea – Brownie/refreshments and lunch.

Meeting Point – Laskey’s carpark in New Norfolk at 9:30 am. Toilets at Banjos Bakery at High Street in New Norfolk.

Duration: 9 :30 am to 2:30 pm (approximately)

What to bring:

• A warm jacket to put underneath a wet weather jacket (We can supply)

• Hat

• Sunglasses

• Shoes that can get wet

• Drink bottle (2L). If you forget we will have extra bottles.

• Towel

• Swimmers

• Change of clothes to leave in the bus

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Yes. Participants must be over the age of 13 years to attend this trip and minors will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

What do I need to wear in the kayak?

Warm tights are a good idea and an exercise top/thermals. If you have a wetsuit bring it. We suggest you also wear a warm jacket.

What if it’s raining?

Trips still go ahead in all types of weather unless it’s heavy rain or very gusty winds. We encourage you to bring your own water proof jacket. Wetsuits and jackets will be provided if a cooler day.

What’s the cancellation policy?

No refunds. Transfers from one person to another will not be permitted.

In the unlikely event of adverse weather conditions, Tassie Bound Adventure Tours reserves the right to change, alter or cancel this trip in the interests of client safety. Tassie Bound Adventure Tours will happily refund monies paid in the event that Extreme Wind or Dangerous Conditions be present at or before the commencement of the Women’s Kayaking . Depending on abilities and weather we reserve the right to change itinerary.

This is a women’s only event however please note Liam from Tassie Bound will be assisting the tour. Fiona Weaver will be our trip leader.

So you can relax and enjoy our upcoming retreat we have implemented a COVID-19 Safety Plan. This will ensure that we look after ourselves and each other over the weekend.

The main points are: – We will provide hand sanitiser for use before, during and after activities. Observation of social distancing rules on the day. – If needed we will implement masks in the van however most activities are outside and considered low risk.

If this event is cancelled due to public health restrictions we cannot refund will provide a transfer to another day in late 2022 or 2023.
