The River Derwent meanders through hidden valleys and rolling farmlands making it a perfect introductory overnight river expedition offering guests a mix of gently flowing river and exciting introductory grade 2 rapid sections!
This is a perfect trip for ladies who are novice kayakers and/or women who are looking for an accessible overnight kayak adventure to build confidence on the moving water. No previous kayak skills needed. Come alone and make new friends or bring your friends along! All kayaking equipment, guide / instructor services, wetsuits if it is a cooler day, all meals as well as transport to and from New Norfolk. If you are looking to escape to nature, have an adventure with like-minded souls and/or wanting to learn new skills in a very supportive and friendly environment this is the trip for you.
Accommodation on Saturday will be at the Swallow’s Nest luxury holiday home situated on stunning acreage property along the banks of the Derwent River at Plently. The house features stunning views from every room, exquisite terraced gardens and a tranquil escape from the stress and bustle of modern life: a true hideaway.

PRICE: Special introductory prices as follows:
$350 pp (plus booking fee) for camping – must bring own camping equipment.
$450 pp (plus booking fee) for you own room in house.
$400 pp (plus booking fee) share twin room in house.
We do not run this trip commercially at Tassie Bound Adventure Tours and only available for Wild Island Women community.
9 am from Laskey’s carpark in New Norfolk. (Car park behind High Street/Post Office). From here we will go in the shuttle together to the Swallows Nest Guest House and leave our camp equipment/luggage safely stowed. If you are leaving your car in New Norfolk overnight we can arrange to be parked outside the New Norfolk Police Station for safe parking.
Continue together to launch site at Meadowbank Vineyard.
10.00 am Safety breifing and set off for kayaking. We will be paddling for around 5 hours in total with breaks along the way. We begin on a private farm on Meadowbank Road and will be kayaking to our accommodation at Plenty.
Lunch, morning tea and snacks will be provided and guests will only need to bring a water bottle with them on the kayaks.
5 pm Arrive at Swallows Nest Accomodation. Set up tents, showers and dinner/wine/relax under the stars or chill in the large common areas.
Liam will be providing a local chef prepared meal for us packed full of in Derwent Valley seasonal produce! Vegetarian and dairy free can be catered for.
7:30 am Breakfast
9: 00 am depart from Swallows Nest (luggage will be loaded in van and will be waiting for us at the completion of tour) in New Norfolk
We will be paddling for around 5 hours in total with breaks along the way to New Norfolk.
Morning tea, lunch and snacks will be provided.
Approximately 3- 4 pm finish and return to New Norfolk.
No previous kayak skills needed. You do NOT need to have any previous kayak experience and we will be following the river flow so trip not particularly strenuous. Just bring your smile and adventurous spirit! Please note this trip is not suitable for non-swimmers or anyone with injuries which prevent general mobility. Please ask us if you are unsure. Tandem kayaks can be arranged for unconfident paddlers and recommend a general fitness level.
Inclusions as follows:
• Tuition given to level of tour.
• Courtesy Transport from New Norfolk to Launch Site and Return – Photos of tour emailed after your trip.
• We will be supported by Professional Guidance with Australian Canoeing Qualified Guide and Leader: Fiona Weaver and Amy Hamilton
• All kayaking Equipment provided including PFDs, Wetsuit for cooler days, Paddling spray jacket. Solo sit-on top Hobie Kayaks or a Tandem Kayak which are super stable an no rolling techniques needed to operate.
• 2 x lunches, 2 x morning teas, 2 x snacks, 1 x dinner, 1 x breakfast and 1 x glass or wine.
Meeting Point – Laskey’s carpark in New Norfolk at 9 am. Toilets at Banjos Bakery at High Street in New Norfolk.
Duration: 9 am Saturday to Sunday 3 – 4 pm (approximately)
What to bring:
• A warm jacket to put underneath a wet weather jacket (We can supply)
Active wear is great for kayaking and layers.
• Shoes that can get wet
• Drink bottle (2L). If you forget we will have extra bottles.
• Change of clothes, PJs, spare shoes and any personal items.
Camping equipment if you are camping.
Please Note: Maxiumum 8 guests. Mix of tandem and solo kayaks will be provided. You do not need any kayaking experience, must have basic swimming, a sense of adventure and a smile! Participants MUST be able to swim and have general mobility and general fitness.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
Yes. You must be over the age of 13 years to attend this trip and accompanied by a parent/guardian.

What do I need to wear in the kayak?
Warm tights are a good idea and an exercise top/thermals. If you have a wetsuit bring it. We suggest you also wear a warm jacket.
What if it’s raining?
Trips still go ahead in all types of weather unless it’s heavy rain or very gusty winds. We encourage you to bring your own water proof jacket. Wetsuits and jackets will be provided if a cooler day.
What’s the cancellation policy?
No refunds. Transfers from one person to another will not be permitted.
In the unlikely event of adverse weather conditions, Tassie Bound Adventure Tours reserves the right to change, alter or cancel this trip in the interests of client safety. Tassie Bound Adventure Tours will happily refund monies paid in the event that Extreme Wind or Dangerous Conditions be present at or before the commencement of the Women’s Kayaking . Depending on abilities and weather we reserve the right to change itinerary.
This is a women’s only event however please note Liam from Tassie Bound will be picking us up in the van at the completition of the tour. Amy Hamilton and Fiona Weaver will be our trip leaders.
